BAFE Holdings provides the strategic leadership for all its companies.

In 2025, British Approvals for Fire Equipment (BAFE) changed its name to BAFE Holdings Limited, and now owns and operates BAFE (BAFE Limited) and FireQual (BAFE FireQual Ltd).

In the early 1980’s the fire safety industry (notably the Fire Extinguisher market) demanded an independent measure of quality. In 1984, this was established with the creation of BAFE, which resided within FETA (Fire Extinguishing Trades Association) and British Fire Protection Systems Association (BFPSA).

BAFE, became fully independent in 2009 and moved to the Fire Service College in Moreton-in-Marsh. Its role within the fire industry has evolved from equipment approvals to creating and maintaining leading UKAS Accredited Schemes and the Fire Safety Register for organisations performing fire and life safety work.

BAFE FireQual was established in 2019, which addressed the requirement for an independent Awarding Organisation to develop and provide Regulated Qualifications for the fire safety sector.
